Islamabad—The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted monsoon rains and strong winds for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various regions of Pakistan on Muharram 9 and 10.
According to PMD reports, monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea are expected to penetrate Pakistan on July 16, influenced by a westerly wave trough affecting the upper parts of the country. These weather conditions are anticipated to impact western and southern regions starting tonight.
During Muharram 9 and 10, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region, northeast and south Balochistan, southeast and lower Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir may experience intermittent monsoon rains and gusty winds, with occasional breaks. Conversely, hot and humid weather conditions are expected in other parts of the country.
Temperatures in Islamabad are projected to reach highs of 35-37°C on Tuesday and 36-38°C on Wednesday. Similarly, Rawalpindi is likely to experience maximum temperatures ranging from 35-37°C on Tuesday, increasing to 36-38°C on Wednesday.
Recent weather observations indicate that hot and humid conditions prevailed across most of Pakistan over the past 24 hours. However, isolated instances of rain, wind, and thunderstorms were reported in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, lower Sindh, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Noteworthy rainfall measurements include 23mm in Upper Dir and 06mm in Lower Dir (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), while Zhob received 20mm and Sibbi 08mm (Balochistan). In Sindh, Chhor recorded 17mm and Mithi 05mm, with Karachi receiving light rainfall at various locations. Rawalakot received 02mm and Garhidupatta 01mm in Kashmir, while in Gilgit-Baltistan, Gupis recorded 02mm and several other areas 01mm.
Nokkundi registered the highest temperature nationwide at 47°C, followed by Dalbandin at 45°C and Turbat at 44°C. In Islamabad, the maximum temperature peaked at 39°C, with an evening relative humidity of 46%. Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, temperatures reached a maximum of 38°C, accompanied by an evening relative humidity of 30%.
