ISLAMABAD: Torrential rains continue to lash various parts of the country, severely disrupting daily life and raising concerns over flash floods and urban inundation.
In several cities, heavy downpours have submerged low-lying areas, causing traffic disruptions, power outages, and widespread inconvenience to residents. Authorities have warned of increasing flood risks in seasonal streams and drainage channels due to continuous rainfall.
In Khuzdar, at least three people lost their lives and one person sustained injuries in rain-related accidents. The injured individual was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The local administration has launched relief and rescue efforts in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, Nasirabad, Barkhan, and surrounding regions experienced intense rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. As a result, low-lying areas were submerged, and power supply was suspended in several locations, compounding the hardships faced by residents.
Disaster management authorities have urged the public to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from water channels and flood-prone zones. Emergency teams have been placed on high alert, and efforts are underway to restore essential services and clear waterlogged areas.
The PMD has forecast further rainfall in the coming days, particularly in Balochistan, Sindh, southern Punjab, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging all concerned departments to prepare for possible urban and flash flooding scenarios.
The spell of rain has also continued in Punjab. Dera Ghazi Khan and its adjacent areas experienced strong winds and heavy rainfall. There's a fear of flash floods in the hill torrents of the Koh-e-Suleiman mountain range due to intense rainfall. Tragically, a boy died in the Zinda Peer area after being struck by lightning.
Other cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, Mian Channu, and Kamalia have also received rain. In Gujrat, water entered homes and shops in low-lying areas, and dozens of GEPCO feeders tripped due to the downpour.
Similarly, parts of Sindh, including Larkana, also experienced thunderstorms and rain. In Larkana, heavy rain submerged low-lying areas, and the entire city experienced a power outage as soon as the rain began.
According to the PMD the current spell of rains is expected to continue in various areas for the next few days. Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures and stay away from seasonal nullahs and rivers.
