Ramadan begins as moon sighted in Pakistan

The Ramazan moon has been sighted across the country, confirming that the first fast will be observed tomorrow (Sunday).

President Asif Ali Zardari urged the Pakistani nation and the entire Muslim ummah to take advantage of the blessings of this sacred month.

Earlier, on Friday, the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced that the moon had not been sighted, officially declaring that Ramazan would commence on March 2 (Sunday).

The committee, led by Chairman Moulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, held its meeting in Peshawar to observe the moon. Meanwhile, zonal Ruet-i-Hilal Committees in cities like Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore also gathered for moon sighting.

Following the meeting, Abdul Khabir Azad confirmed in a press conference that the first day of Ramazan would be on March 2.
