PESHAWAR: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Friday that the moon of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak was not sighted in Pakistan.
Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad chaired the committee’s meeting in Peshawar to determine the sighting of the new moon. No reports confirmed the sighting of the Ramadan moon in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, or any other part of the country.
As a result, Ramadan will commence in Pakistan on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Religious scholars from all schools of thought and weather experts participated in the moon sighting meeting.
No reports of moon sightings emerged from any location in the country, as Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad observed that the weather remained cloudy in most areas and clear in others.
An official notification later confirmed this announcement from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Members of the Central and Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees, along with representatives from various institutions, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission, attended the meeting.
Ramadan-ul-Mubarak, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, marks a period of fasting for Muslims.
During this time, Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, gossiping, and cursing while dedicating themselves to meditative acts such as prayer, reading the Holy Quran, and giving to charity.
This month serves as a period for spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and deepened faith. Muslims devote themselves to prayer, Quran recitation, and charitable acts. Meanwhile, preparations for observing Ramadan 2025 are underway in several countries worldwide.
