Islamabad: On the issue of the construction of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, Pakistan will revalidate the pipeline survey before the construction of the gas pipeline.
Sources from the Petroleum Division have informed us that an 80-kilometre pipeline will be constructed from Gwadar to the Iranian border.
In this regard, Interstate Gas Systems has issued a tender for the revalidation of the survey, and the services of consultants will be obtained for the survey and engineering design.
However, since the earlier survey and engineering design of the project are decades old, Pakistan is taking all possible steps to avoid a possible $18 billion fine.
Earlier, Minister of Petroleum, Musadik Malik has stated that Pakistan intends to approach the United States to request a waiver on sanctions related to the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline project.
Addressing the media, the petroleum minister emphasized Pakistan’s inability to afford any halt to the project and mentioned plans to seek exemption from the US sanctions.
Malik elaborated that a draft petition for exemption has been prepared, and Pakistan will vigorously present its case on the matter.
