Officials say Pakistan has been in contact with leadership in both Washington and Tehran, using the current pause in fighting as an opportunity to encourage dialogue.
The effort isn’t being carried out alone Turkiye and Egypt are also involved, working alongside Pakistan in what diplomats describe as active “shuttle diplomacy.”
According to sources, these joint efforts helped create space for a temporary de-escalation, including a reported five-day halt in attacks on Iran’s power infrastructure announced by Donald Trump. The White House has confirmed that high-level contacts between the parties are ongoing.
Pakistan has also made it clear that it is ready to host formal talks in Islamabad if both sides agree. Its ability to maintain working relationships with both Washington and Tehran has made it a natural go-between at a sensitive time.
Analysts say geography also plays a role Pakistan shares a border with Iran, which adds to its strategic importance in any regional de-escalation effort. This combination of access and relationships has helped position Pakistan as a stabilizing force in the situation.
Still, uncertainty remains. While the United States has paused its actions with conditions, Iran has not yet formally agreed to negotiations. Even so, multiple diplomatic channels are now open, and Pakistan continues to play a key role in keeping communication alive between the two sides.
