Pakistan Railways has introduced a major initiative to improve accessibility for passengers with disabilities. The new program offers up to 50% off on train fares for disabled individuals traveling on all express and passenger trains, excluding the Green Line. To qualify for the discount, passengers must present their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) with disability details.

Additionally, attendants traveling with visually impaired passengers will also benefit from discounted fares.

This initiative is part of Pakistan Railways' ongoing efforts to make travel more inclusive for people with disabilities (PWD) throughout the country.

The program aims to improve the comfort and accessibility of train travel for millions of disabled passengers in Pakistan.

Pakistan Railways has also implemented various facilities at major stations, such as providing wheelchairs, setting up dedicated booking counters, and installing accessible executive washrooms at select stations.

Plans are in place to extend these services to 12 more stations in the near future.

In addition to these efforts, Pakistan Railways recently reported a significant increase in revenue. In the five months leading up to November 29, the state-owned company generated Rs 33 billion, marking a 14% growth compared to last year’s Rs 29 billion during the same period. This boost reflects improved operational efficiency and strategic revenue management.

Pakistan Railways CEO Aamir Ali Baloch also pointed to the positive outlook for the Main Line-1 (ML-1) project, with construction set to begin by March 2025, ensuring long-term infrastructure development and growth.

The strong financial performance solidifies Pakistan Railways' path towards sustainability and resilience in the transport sector.
