Karachi: Intense monsoon rainfall has severely impacted railway operations across Karachi, leading to widespread delays and stranded passengers throughout the city.
Pakistan Railways has confirmed that several major trains are running behind schedule due to waterlogged tracks and adverse weather conditions.
According to officials, the Bahauddin Zakariya Express is delayed by approximately 75 minutes, now scheduled to depart at 7:30 PM.
The Fareed Express faces a significant delay of four and a half hours, with a new departure time set for midnight. The Shah Hussain Express will now leave at 10:00 PM, one hour later than originally planned.
Other affected trains include the Sukkur Express, which is expected to depart at 1:00 AM after a two-and-a-half-hour delay, and the Khyber Mail, scheduled to leave at 11:45 PM, running approximately 90 minutes late.
This wave of delays coincides with Karachi’s fourth consecutive day of heavy monsoon rains. The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts ongoing light rain and drizzle, with humidity levels exceeding 80% and daytime temperatures around 32°C.
The relentless monsoon has also caused tragic incidents in the city, including fatalities resulting from electrocution and roof collapses. Authorities have urged passengers to verify train schedules through official helplines or local stations before planning their journeys.
As weather conditions remain unpredictable, delays are expected to continue, with a second monsoon spell anticipated in early July, likely prolonging disruptions to rail services.
