Funeral prayers held for soldiers martyred in South Waziristan attack

The funeral prayers for the martyrs who laid down their lives in a gun battle with the Khawarij in the Makin area of South Waziristan on December 21 were held in Bannu Cantonment.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the funeral prayers were attended by the Corps Commander of Peshawar, senior officers and personnel of the Pakistan Army, and local dignitaries in large numbers.

Among the martyrs was Waqar Ahmed, a civilian camera technician from Jamrud, whose funeral prayers were also performed.

A spokesperson for the Pakistan Army emphasized that the sacrifices of the martyrs continue to strengthen the nation’s resolve in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

The previous day, terrorists from the Khawarij group attacked a check post in Makin, South Waziristan. During the firefight, 16 soldiers embraced martyrdom, while eight terrorists were killed in the security forces' counterattack.

Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari has pledged to root out the menace of Fitna-al-Khwarij from Pakistan. Condemning a terrorist attack on a security check post in South Waziristan, he expressed deep grief over the martyrdom of 16 soldiers.

The President paid rich tributes to these brave sons of the soil and extended condolences to their families, praying for their strength and patience.

Zardari emphasized that the nation stands united with the armed forces in the fight against terrorism, terming terrorists as enemies of both the country and humanity. He assured that anti-terrorism operations will continue until the complete eradication of this threat.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also strongly condemned the attack by Fitna-al-Khwarij terrorists in the Makeen area of South Waziristan. He expressed the government’s unwavering resolve to eliminate terrorism in all its forms.
