The first shipment of 146 out of 160 electric buses has arrived in Islamabad, aiming to enhance public transport and ensure a smooth travel experience for residents.
According to officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the remaining 14 buses have already departed from China and are en route to Islamabad.
The CDA also announced that work has begun on constructing the Zero-Point charging station. This project faced delays earlier due to the cancellation of tenders twice, but a new tender has now been approved at reduced costs. In the initial phase, chargers and parking areas for new routes will be set up, while temporary offices will operate from containers until permanent setups are ready.
Officials further noted that one month will be needed to train drivers on the newly designated routes, which include Park Road, B-7, PWD, I-8, and I-9. Approval for operating buses on these four routes has already been granted.
Meanwhile, on December 4, the Punjab government announced plans to deploy 102 electric buses in Rawalpindi on an 84-kilometer stretch, covering 10 major public transport routes. A budget of Rs. 4.7 billion has been allocated for this initiative, aimed at reducing pollution and improving air quality.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan stated that the service would commence next year, with buses covering routes between Taxila, Wah Cantt, IJP Road, and Daulatala to Rawalpindi. This effort reflects a significant step toward environmentally friendly public transportation in the region.
