KARACHI: The Sindh Government has activated its Rain and Flood Emergency Monitoring Cell on the directives of the Chief Minister, ensuring round-the-clock operations of the Flood Emergency Control Room.
The control center, established at the office of the Chief Secretary, is fully functional and closely monitoring the water flow at all barrages across the province.
The officials from the Flood Cell, Irrigation Department, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) , Health, and Livestock are present in the control room to coordinate relief and response efforts.
The Sindh Flood Control Room remains in constant contact with district administrations to ensure timely response to public complaints and effective relief measures.
In view of the flood threat, families from vulnerable areas are being shifted to safer locations. Authorities have identified 102 sensitive points across Sindh, where machinery and emergency supplies have already been deployed. According to focal persons, 40 to 50 percent of the affected population may need relocation to relief camps.
All protective embankments in Sindh are reported safe, with emergency preparedness plans fully in place. However, a high flow from Panjnad is anticipated, which could accelerate the pace of water flow, officials including Zubair Channa have cautioned.
The sensitive districts under strict watch include Sukkur, Larkana, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Dadu, and Jamshoro. The Health Department has ensured 24/7 availability of doctors and medicines, while more than 70 mobile health units have been deployed in flood-prone districts.
The authorities highlighted that the Sindh Government had successfully tackled the 2010 super flood of 1.1 million cusecs and expressed readiness to manage the current situation with the same level of preparedness.
