ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s fish and seafood exports reached a record $568 million during the fiscal year 2025-26, marking a major milestone for the country’s blue economy.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the growth reflected the government’s efforts to expand seafood exports, improve quality standards and strengthen the fisheries sector.
He said the achievement was made despite challenges affecting regional trade and maritime logistics, showing the resilience of Pakistan’s seafood industry and the efforts of exporters and regulatory authorities.
Frozen fish remained the largest export product, generating $105.09 million in earnings. It was followed by frozen squid and cuttlefish with $103.71 million, fish meal with $83.12 million, shrimps with $62.14 million and crabs with $36.89 million.
Pakistan’s seafood products were mainly exported to China, Thailand, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Indonesia and the United States. Other major seafood exports included sardines, mackerels, flat fish, octopus and minced fish meat, according to the minister.
Chaudhry said the government would continue working to improve quality assurance systems, explore new export markets, promote value added seafood products and increase the global competitiveness of Pakistan’s fisheries sector.
He added that a ceremony would soon be held to recognize the country’s top 10 fisheries exporters, who will receive certificates of appreciation from the prime minister.
Pakistan’s seafood exports have shown steady improvement in recent years despite challenges, including international restrictions, declining fish stocks and shortages of raw materials.
The latest figures highlight the growing importance of the fisheries sector in supporting Pakistan’s exports and economic growth.
