KARACHI: Karachi Traffic Police has issued a special traffic plan for the 8th, 9th, and 10th Muharram (1448 AH) in view of Ashura processions across the city.
Officials said MA Jinnah Road will remain closed from Guru Mandir to Tower due to security arrangements, as the main processions will start from Nishtar Park and end at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah using traditional routes.
The traffic police have advised citizens to use alternative roads to avoid congestion. People coming from Nazimabad have been directed to take Lasbela Chowk via Garden to reach Nishtar Road.
Those travelling from Liaquatabad should turn towards Teen Hatti and use Martin Road. A short closure will also be applied on the Liaquatabad, Guru Mandir route on Muharram 9 from 8:30 am to 9:30 am.

Commuters moving from Hasan Square to Peoples Chowrangi have been asked to use Kashmir Road, Jail Flyover, Teen Hatti, and Nishtar Road. Traffic from Shahrah-e-Faisal towards Numaish Chowrangi will be diverted to Kashmir Road from society light signal. Similarly, vehicles coming from Central Jail Gate towards MA Jinnah Road will be rerouted through Guru Mandir and Bahadur Yar Jung Road.
The 9th and 10th Muharram will be observed on June 25 and 26, with the federal government declaring public holidays. Muharram is one of the sacred months in Islam, and Ashura marks the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala. Across Pakistan, Ashura processions and religious gatherings are held with tight security and traffic management in place.
