KARACHI: A three-year-old child from Pathan Colony has tested positive for HIV, adding to growing concerns about the increasing number of cases reported in the area.
According to medical reports, doctors confirmed the child's HIV infection after conducting tests with three different testing kits. All three tests showed positive results.
The child's family said the child had received medical treatment at Valika Hospital before becoming seriously ill. After the child's condition worsened, the parents decided to arrange an HIV test, which confirmed the infection.
The parents believe medical negligence at the hospital may have caused their child to contract HIV. However, these claims have not been independently verified. Health authorities have not released any official findings about how the child became infected.
Hospital sources said 107 children in Pathan Colony have been diagnosed with HIV so far, furthermore nine deaths linked to the disease have been reported in the area. Health officials have not yet commented on the latest case or confirmed whether an investigation is underway.
In connection with the recent HIV cases, families of children diagnosed with HIV gathered at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) to protest. They alleged that negligence by staff at government hospitals and improper medical treatment led to the infections.
The protesters demanded that authorities register a First Information Report (FIR) against the hospitals, medical staff and others they believe are responsible. Authorities have not yet responded to the allegations, and no official investigation has confirmed the claims.
