Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reiterated its strong stance regarding match referee Andy Pycroft, sending a second formal letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) demanding his immediate removal.
According to the sources, the PCB has made it clear that Pakistan will not participate in any matches officiated by Pycroft.
In letter, PCB has insisted that the match referee be replaced without delay, warning that Pakistan may boycott the Asia Cup and other ICC events if the demand is not met. The board has refused to show any flexibility in its position, calling the ICC’s initial inquiry into the matter a "mere formality."
Sources claim the PCB has criticized the inquiry process, stating that it failed to thoroughly examine all aspects and did not adequately engage with the relevant individuals. This, the board argues, raises serious concerns about the transparency and credibility of the investigation.
In its response, the PCB has firmly stated that until an official announcement is made confirming Andy Pycroft’s removal from officiating in Pakistan’s matches, the national team will not participate in any ICC fixtures.
The controversy arose after Pakistan and India captains skipped handshake at the toss during their September 14 Asia Cup 2025 clash, an omission reportedly directed by Andy Pycroft.
Following this aggressive stance, the ICC is reportedly under significant pressure. A crucial decision regarding Pycroft’s future is expected to be announced today. Sources suggest that, given the current situation, the ICC may have no choice but to remove Pycroft from overseeing Pakistan’s matches in order to prevent the matter from escalating further.
