Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir undertook an important visit to China, where he held high-level meetings with senior Chinese political and military leadership, reaffirming the long-standing strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.
During his visit to Beijing, Field Marshal Asim Munir met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Discussions centered around evolving regional and global political developments and the advancement of connectivity initiatives under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Both sides emphasized the need for a coordinated response to common geo-strategic challenges and expressed satisfaction with the depth of bilateral ties. The leadership reiterated their shared commitment to sovereignty-based equality, multilateral cooperation, and long-term regional stability.
The COAS also held detailed meetings with Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC), General Zhang Youxia, Political Commissar of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), General Chen Huai, and PLA Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Cai Zhijun.
Upon arrival at the PLA Army Headquarters, Field Marshal Asim Munir was presented with a Guard of Honour. During the meetings, both sides discussed enhancing defence and security cooperation, counter-terrorism collaboration, joint training, military modernization, and institutional linkages.
Particular focus was placed on improving mutual operational coordination and strategic cooperation to effectively counter hybrid and cross-border threats.
The Chinese military leadership expressed full confidence in the bilateral defense partnership and acknowledged Pakistan's pivotal role in promoting peace and stability in the region. They also praised the resilience and professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces, recognizing them as a symbol of peace and stability in South Asia.
Field Marshal Asim Munir conveyed gratitude for China’s continued support and reiterated Pakistan’s firm resolve to further expand military cooperation across all domains.
According to ISPR, the Army Chief’s visit reflects the growing depth of political and military relations between the two brotherly nations. The visit also underlines a shared commitment to high-level dialogue and collaboration to promote regional peace and security.
