LONDON: Kensington Palace has confirmed that Prince George, the eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales, will attend Eton College from September, ending years of speculation over his education.
The decision means Prince George will follow in the footsteps of his father, Prince William, and his uncle, Prince Harry, both of whom studied at the prestigious boarding school.
The announcement has drawn renewed attention to comments previously made by Prince Harry, who has spoken about his difficult experience at Eton. In a past interview with Time magazine, he said he struggled with academic work and would not have remained at the school without its strong sporting opportunities.
“If it wasn’t for the sports field and the amount of sports that were on offer, there’s no way I would have stayed in school,” he said.
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ decision is expected to fuel ongoing discussion about the future schooling of Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Eton’s proximity to Windsor and the family’s residence at Forest Lodge is seen as a key factor in the choice, alongside the school’s long-standing association with the royal family.
Catherine, Princess of Wales, attended Marlborough College, but sources suggest the couple prioritise stability and keeping their children close.
