Diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran have concluded without reaching an agreement, despite extensive discussions on key regional and security issues.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the success of the diplomatic process depends on the seriousness and good faith of the other side.
He noted that the negotiations held in Islamabad under Pakistan’s facilitation, continued for nearly 24 hours with continuous exchanges of messages and written proposals.
The discussions reportedly covered several sensitive issues, including the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief, and compensation for wartime damages, along with broader regional security concerns.
Baghaei stated that while progress was achieved on some points, disagreements over a few key issues prevented a final agreement. He added that diplomacy will continue with Pakistan and other regional partners, stressing that dialogue remains essential for protecting national interests.
Earlier reports indicated that proposals also included sanctions removal, limits on further escalation, and broader regional de-escalation measures.
The US delegation has since returned to Washington following the inconclusive talks.
The developments highlight ongoing diplomatic challenges between the two sides, despite sustained international mediation efforts.
