ISLAMABAD – Severe heatwave conditions in Pakistan are expected to ease due to dust-thunderstorms and isolated rains in the upper regions from May 28 to June 1.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reports that a shallow westerly wave will affect upper parts of the country beginning the evening or night of May 28.
Under the influence of this weather system, rain-wind/thunderstorms are anticipated in various parts of Pakistan from May 28 to June 1.
Balochistan: Dust/thunderstorms are forecasted for Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Sherani, and Barkhan from the night of May 27 to May 29.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Dust/thunderstorms with isolated rain are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan, and Kurram from the evening or night of May 28 to June 1, with occasional gaps.
Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir: Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) and Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from the evening or night of May 28 to June 1.
Punjab/Islamabad: Dust/thunderstorms with isolated rain are anticipated in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali from the evening or night of May 28 to June 1, with occasional gaps.
Sindh: Duststorms/gusty winds are expected in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, and Hyderabad on May 28 and May 29.
Possible Impacts and Advisories: Farmers are advised to manage their crops accordingly. Windstorms and lightning may disrupt daily routines and affect standing crops, loose structures like electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels during this period.
Severe heatwave conditions are likely to subside in the upper parts from May 28, though heatwave conditions are expected to persist in the central and southern regions. Daytime temperatures are likely to remain 3-4°C above normal. The general public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.
