Madison Marsh, hailing from Fort Smith, Arkansas, achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first active-duty US Air Force officer to be crowned Miss America 2024.

Her historic win occurred during the ceremony held in Orlando, Florida, on January 14, 2024. Prior to this achievement, Second Lt. Marsh had already claimed the title of Miss Colorado in May 2023, propelling her to the national finals.

While pursuing her education at the United States Air Force Academy, Marsh, a budding Top Gun pilot, engaged in pageantry as an extracurricular pursuit. She found resonance in the community service aspects and the emphasis on public speaking within pageants.

Marsh also noted the alignment between pageant training and her military fitness requirements, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness in both arenas.

Arkansas State Representative Steve Womack extended his congratulations to Marsh, highlighting her remarkable strength and story, which he believes will inspire young women across America.

Marsh's journey to becoming a US Air Force pilot began at the age of 15, driven by her aspiration to secure admission to the Air Force Academy and pursue a career as a fighter pilot or astronaut.

Despite facing personal challenges, including the loss of her mother to pancreatic cancer, Marsh remained determined, eventually earning her pilot's license at 17. Inspired by her experiences, Marsh is now considering a career in cancer research, leveraging her studies at the Kennedy School to delve into policymaking related to cancer.
