Here is how you can restore deleted messages in iPhone

  • iPhone users can now recovery deleted text messages.
  • There are two known ways to recover messages.
  • Users can recover messages from iClod backup or from recently deleted messages.
While the thought of losing a text message may not seem significant, many iPhone users, like users of other smartphones, use text message chatboxes as notepads to store important information.

If you’re someone who stores valuable data in text messages and has lost it while clearing device storage or due to an unfortunate incident, don’t worry. There is a solution that will surely assist you in recovering those messages.

The solution mentioned can be achieved using a few methods that we will discuss further.

Ways to recover deleted messages on iPhone

Recover deleted messages from recently deleted

The ability to retrieve your erased messages on an iPhone was initially introduced with iOS 16 and iPadOS 16.1. The only constraint you may face is that you can perform this within a 30-day period, and if unsuccessful, you will not be able to recover the deleted text messages on your iPhone.

Steps to follow to recover deleted messages from Recently Deleted:

  • Open Messages
  • Tap on Filters (top left)
  • Tap on Recently Deleted
  • You will find messages that were deleted in the past 30 days here. To recover one tap on it.
  • Now tap on Recover and that message will move back into your conversation list.

Recover deleted messages on iPhone from iCloud backup

If 30 days have elapsed and there’s no possibility of recovering your deleted text messages on your iPhone, your next best alternative is to use an iCloud backup.

Bear in mind that to retrieve deleted messages on an iPhone via an iCloud backup, you must have a backup from the time the text message was deleted. Furthermore, restoring any past iCloud backup will result in the loss of everything you’ve saved on your device since then.

Follow the following steps to recover deleted messages using iCloud backup:

  • Head to Settings
  • Tap on your Apple ID card at the top
  • Select iCloud
  • Now choose Manage Storage, and then Backups
  • Opt for the right backup
  • Now you’ll have to reset your iPhone to factory settings and set it up again in order to restore from your iCloud backup during the process.
  • To reset your iPhone, go to General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings
