Apple is set to launch an upgraded AI-powered Siri with its upcoming iOS 18.3 update in early 2025, shortly after the release of the iPhone 16 series. Following the new iPhone's debut, Apple plans to introduce iOS 18.1 in October 2024, featuring initial enhancements under the banner of Apple Intelligence, including a refreshed Siri, Writing Tools, Photos Cleanup, and Notification Summaries.
The subsequent update, iOS 18.2, is expected to introduce new features like Image Playground, Genmoji, and integration with ChatGPT. However, iPhone users will have to wait until January 2025 for the iOS 18.3 update, which will bring the much-anticipated AI capabilities to Siri.
Announced at the Worldwide Developers’ Conference in June 2024, Apple had not initially provided a timeline for the new Siri's rollout, but reports indicate that the AI features will be integrated as early as January. The update will revamp Siri, adding visual enhancements such as a glowing light around the screen edges when activated, along with improved functionality.
Notably, Apple has partnered with OpenAI to incorporate ChatGPT technology into Siri, enhancing its AI capabilities. On September 10, Apple showcased its AI-boosted iPhone 16 and promised further improvements to Siri as it prepares to roll out new software in test mode next month.
"The next generation of iPhone has been designed for Apple Intelligence from the ground up. It marks the beginning of an exciting new era," Chief Executive Tim Cook said at a product launch.
Apple's shares ended the day virtually unchanged at $220.91. The company's event took place just hours before Huawei launched its tri-fold phone, highlighting the competitive challenges facing the iPhone maker. Additionally, Apple has not yet revealed an AI partner in China to support the iPhone 16 series.
