“We were always thinking that we came to do something good, and we will do it.”
“However, judging by the outcomes and our performance on the field, we failed to put up a fight. It’s disheartening,” Shakib remarked.
When asked about Bangladesh’s prospects of winning the world championship, Shakib acknowledged a significant disparity between his team and the stronger squads.
“I don’t know how long it will take. The difference between us and the two major teams, likely frontrunners for the World Cup, was evident.”
“It’s frustrating that such a large gap still exists,” the 37-year-old Shakib stated.
In the match against India, Bangladesh managed only 146-8 in 20 overs in contrast to India’s 196-5. Najmul Hossain Shanto, the Tigers’ captain, topped the score with 40 runs.
Bangladesh has consistently struggled with their batting throughout the tournament, with Towhid Hridoy being their top scorer, amassing 139 runs in six innings.
Shakib, a seasoned player, was the sole Tiger to hit a half-century in the tournament’s initial phase against the Netherlands.
He also mentioned his career plans, indicating no rush in making decisions.
“If the team believes they need me, and I feel the same need for the team and feel wanted, then I’ll continue playing,” he stated.
“Otherwise, if I’m not finding joy in it, I certainly won’t play. When the time comes, it will be known,” he concluded.
