Sharing the news on social media, Imad expressed his gratitude and called his time representing Pakistan the "greatest honour" of his life. He stated, “To all fans and supporters: After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket.”
Reflecting on his journey, the left-handed batter cherished every moment in the green jersey, saying, “Representing Pakistan on the world stage has been the greatest honour of my life, and every moment wearing the green jersey has been unforgettable.”
Acknowledging the unconditional support from fans, he added, “Your unwavering support, love, and passion have always been my biggest strength. From the highs to the lows, your encouragement has pushed me to give my best for our beloved country.”
While stepping away from international cricket, the 35-year-old clarified that he will continue playing in domestic and franchise leagues. “This chapter comes to an end, but I look forward to continuing my journey in cricket through domestic and franchise cricket. I hope to keep entertaining you all in new ways,” he said.
Earlier this year, Imad had reversed his retirement decision following a request from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to participate in the T20 World Cup 2024. During the tournament, he managed just 19 runs in two innings and secured three wickets in three games.
Throughout his career, Imad represented Pakistan in 75 T20Is and 55 ODIs, amassing a total of 1,540 runs with six half-centuries and taking 117 wickets.
