DUBAI: Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma has made remarkable progress in the ICC T20I batting and all-rounder rankings following his outstanding display in the five-match T20I series against England.
Sharma surged 38 places in the batting rankings, overtaking compatriot Tilak Varma to secure the second position. Additionally, he climbed 31 spots in the all-rounder rankings, thanks to his exceptional performance in the final match of the series in Mumbai.
The left-handed batter played a sensational knock of 135 runs off just 54 balls, hitting 13 sixes. He also contributed with the ball, taking two crucial wickets, which earned him the Player of the Match award.
Despite Sharma’s rapid rise, Australia's Travis Head continues to lead the T20I batting rankings, though Sharma trails him by just 26 rating points. Meanwhile, Varma and India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav have slipped to third and fifth place, respectively.
In the bowling rankings, West Indies’ Akeal Hosein has reclaimed the top spot after briefly losing it to England’s Adil Rashid. Rashid has now dropped to second place, where he is joined by Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who moved up three spots.
Chakravarthy is now just two rating points behind Hosein, making the battle for the number-one position even more intense.
In the T20I all-rounder rankings, Hardik Pandya remains in the top position, followed by Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee.
Meanwhile, in Test cricket, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah continues to dominate the ICC Test Bowling Rankings after an impressive Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) campaign against Australia, where he claimed 32 wickets.
England’s Joe Root leads the ICC Test Batting Rankings, with his teammate Harry Brook in second place.
