A religious scholar Muhammad Idris was killed in a targeted attack in the Utmanzai area of Charsadda, triggering widespread grief and renewed concerns over security conditions in the region.
According to initial reports the incident took place when the cleric was traveling towards his seminary. Unidentified armed individuals targeted him and fled the scene. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the motive behind the attack, while investigations are underway.
The killing sparked strong reactions from local residents, religious circles, and community leaders, who condemned the incident and expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation. In March 2025 a suicide attack in South Waziristan injured a district religious leader. Earlier in February 2025, an attack at a seminary in Akora Khattak resulted in the killing of a senior religious figure.
Security analysts say these incidents highlight ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in maintaining order in certain regions. They note that targeted violence continues to remain a concern in border and rural districts.
