In a significant move towards promoting renewable energy, all 737 police stations across Punjab, including those in Lahore, will be equipped with solar power systems.
This initiative was announced by the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, who outlined the project’s phased implementation plan.
The rollout will occur in two stages. The first phase involves installing solar power systems at 350 police stations, including 40 stations in Lahore. The second phase, scheduled for the next fiscal year, will cover the remaining 375 police stations.
Each station will be outfitted with a 3-kilowatt solar power system and batteries to store energy, ensuring a steady electricity supply even during outages.
This project represents a key step in Punjab’s transition to renewable energy and aims to reduce reliance on traditional power sources. It underscores Punjab’s commitment to sustainability and highlights the growing emphasis on environmental responsibility within essential public services like law enforcement.
By switching to solar energy, police stations will contribute to lower carbon emissions and a greener, cleaner environment. The initiative is expected to enhance energy efficiency, cut operational costs, and address power shortages that have affected the region.
