LONDON: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said that Pakistan was moving forward on economic, diplomatic, and defense fronts. He said the economy had stabilized and the country was now ready for growth and progress.
Speaking to overseas Pakistanis at the Pakistan High Commission in London, the Prime Minister admitted that Pakistan’s economy had faced tough times in the past. He credited the government’s sincerity, teamwork, and hard work for the progress made so far.
“We can overcome any challenge through unity, sincere efforts, and cooperation,” he said, adding that Pakistan had regained dignity and respect in the international community.
Recalling past struggles, he said Pakistan had defeated its enemies in war and earned global recognition. He noted that during his recent speech at the UN General Assembly, he represented the people of Pakistan, raised the issues of Kashmir and Palestine, and conveyed the nation’s sentiments.
The Prime Minister said Kashmir would one day achieve freedom, while the people of Gaza were facing unprecedented brutality. He expressed hope that the meeting of Arab and Islamic leaders, chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, would bring positive results for Gaza.
He also shared that he had a constructive meeting with President Trump in Washington in a cordial atmosphere, which he believed would further strengthen Pakistan-U.S. ties.
Calling overseas Pakistanis a “precious asset” and ambassadors of the country, he praised their role in serving Pakistan abroad.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who also addressed the gathering, said Pakistan had effectively raised its voice on issues of Kashmir, Palestine, and Gaza during the UN General Assembly. He added that the Prime Minister’s leadership had prevented Pakistan from defaulting in 2022 and helped achieve economic stability.
Dar noted that inflation had dropped from 30% to 5% and interest rates had fallen from 22% to 11%. He said Pakistan’s progress was being recognized worldwide and would help reduce poverty and increase people’s income.
Overseas Pakistanis attending the event praised the Prime Minister’s UN speech, saying it effectively presented Pakistan’s stance on global issues. They expressed pride that his speech was among the most listened to in the UN General Assembly.
The Prime Minister also recorded his impressions in the guest book of the Pakistan High Commission.
