The number of deadly accidents involving water tankers and dumpers in Karachi continues to rise, with another life lost in Baldia Sector 8.
According to police, a man was hit and killed by a speeding water tanker, and the driver ran away after the accident. However, police have managed to take the tanker into custody.
In a separate incident in the Naval Colony area of Baldia, a dumper truck crashed into a rickshaw, injuring five people, including two women. The dumper driver also fled the scene.
These accidents highlight the growing danger of heavy vehicles on Karachi’s roads, despite the government placing restrictions on their movement. Fatal crashes keep happening regularly.
On April 14, a woman died when a bus hit a motorcycle near Orangi Town No. 5. Her body was taken to a hospital, and police arrested the bus driver and filed a case against him.
So far this year, over 85 people have died in accidents involving heavy vehicles in Karachi. The rising death toll has led to public anger and protests. In some cases, people have set fire to heavy vehicles after accidents.
Earlier this month, a dumper truck ran over two motorcycles in North Karachi, leading angry locals to torch several trucks. On April 13, a similar incident happened in Gulshan-e-Iqbal near Disco Bakery, where a vehicle involved in a fatal crash was set on fire by a crowd. Police later arrested the driver and three others, and also detained several people for burning the vehicle.
