ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has revealed that more than 7 million Pakistanis aged 18 and above still don’t have their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs).
This large number shows a serious gap in registration, which affects access to education, jobs, healthcare, and even legal rights.
In an advisory, NADRA urged all eligible citizens to register by visiting their nearest office or using the Pak ID mobile app. Parents have also been asked to register their children on time to avoid future problems.
Experts warn that millions of unregistered Pakistanis are invisible to the government and cannot benefit from basic services without official IDs. People in remote areas face the most difficulty due to long travel distances, lack of awareness, and poverty.
To make the process easier, NADRA has introduced mobile registration vans and online services. Officials remind citizens that having a CNIC is essential for voting, banking, travelling, and accessing government facilities. Most importantly, it proves your identity in emergencies.
Separately, NADRA announced the temporary closure of several service centers in Punjab due to heavy rains and flooding. The step has been taken for the safety of both citizens and staff.
The affected centers include Vanike Tarar, Hafizabad, Jalalpur Bhattian, Hafizabad, 18 Hazari (Jhang), Ahmad Nagar (Chiniot), Midh Ranjha (Sargodha), Kari Sharif (Gujrat), Kotli Loharan (Sialkot), Syedpur (Sialkot), Khidmat Markaz (Sialkot), and Depalpur (Okara). These will remain closed until further notice.
