Lahore bans street sale of qurbani animals for Eidul Adha

The Punjab Home Department has announced a significant decision to enhance public safety and order during the upcoming Eidul Adha celebrations. Effective immediately, the sale of Qurbani animals on the roads and streets of Lahore is strictly prohibited.

This measure, enforced under Section 144, aims to streamline the sale of sacrificial animals and prevent the chaos typically seen on the city’s streets during this festive season.

Ensuring Order During Eidul Adha

Section 144 has been invoked to prohibit the sale and purchase of Qurbani animals outside designated cattle markets. This regulation will remain in effect until June 20, coinciding with the preparation period for Eidul Adha.

The decision, prompted by the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, underscores the necessity of maintaining law and order during this busy time.

Designated Cattle Markets for Qurbani Animals

To accommodate the needs of the community while adhering to the new regulations, eight designated cattle markets have been established across Lahore.

These markets are strategically located to provide convenience while ensuring public order. The designated markets exempt from Section 144 are situated at:

  1. Shahpur Kanjra
  2. LDA City Defence Road
  3. Burki Road Paragon
  4. Saggian Road
  5. Sports Complex Addarakh
  6. NFC Multan Road
  7. Raiwind Sundar Road
  8. New King Lane
These venues will be the only permitted locations for the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals, ensuring that the bustling activities of Eidul Adha do not disrupt the smooth flow of traffic or public safety.

Impact on Public Order and Traffic Flow

The implementation of Section 144 is a proactive measure to safeguard public order and facilitate the smooth flow of traffic in Lahore during the Eidul Adha festivities.

By restricting the sale of Qurbani animals to designated markets, the Punjab Home Department aims to prevent the usual street congestion and ensure a more organized environment for all residents.

Compliance and community cooperation

Residents and sellers are urged to comply with the new regulations to ensure a peaceful and orderly Eidul Adha.

The designated cattle markets are fully equipped to handle the expected influx of buyers and sellers, providing a controlled environment for the sale of Qurbani animals.
