To prevent another dengue outbreak, the Islamabad district administration has launched a proactive plan ahead of the monsoon season. In a high-level meeting led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Irfan Nawaz Memon, officials outlined measures to tackle mosquito-borne diseases.
According to the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration, a rigorous anti-dengue campaign will kick off immediately after Eid, focusing on surveillance, larvae control, and public awareness. The meeting was attended by assistant commissioners, health officials, and other relevant authorities to coordinate efforts.
Key decisions included reactivating surveillance teams to monitor dengue hotspots, conduct door-to-door inspections, and eliminate stagnant water breeding grounds. Health workers have been instructed to report suspected cases quickly and initiate rapid testing.
DC Memon stressed that public cooperation is vital, urging residents to keep their surroundings clean. Authorities will issue guidelines on removing standing water from common breeding sites like pots, tires, and open containers.
A dedicated task force will oversee larvae control in parks, construction sites, and underdeveloped areas, while fogging drives will begin post-Eid. Awareness campaigns will also be conducted through social media, leaflets, and community announcements.
To enforce sanitation rules, property owners and businesses failing to maintain cleanliness may face fines and legal action. Hospitals have been directed to allocate isolation beds and stockpile testing kits in preparation for a potential rise in cases.
With monsoon rains approaching, Islamabad’s administration is taking no chances, combining preventive measures, public engagement, and strict enforcement to protect residents. As DC Memon put it: “Prevention is our strongest weapon—let’s use it wisely.”
