On May 29, Karachi experienced its warmest day of the year, with temperatures soaring to 41.5°C.
It’s also remarkable that the city’s all-time record high temperature was 48°C, set on May 9, 1938.
Weather specialists predict that the current heatwave will diminish after June 1, which is today. Conversely, the Meteorological Department projected on May 30 that the country is set to experience “extraordinary” monsoon rainfall from June through August.
While the prospect of rain might offer some respite from the heat, there is also concern over potential flash floods due to the anticipated heavy rainfall.
The Meteorological Department’s outlook suggests a likelihood of normal to above-normal precipitation in many regions this year, with a particular emphasis on the possibility of heavy rains affecting central and northern Punjab.
Additionally, southern Sindh is expected to face significant rainfall, and Balochistan is also at risk of experiencing unusual wet weather conditions.
