The federal government has decided to suspend internet services in major cities of Punjab in response to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) planned protest on November 24.
The Ministry of Interior announced that the suspension will begin at midnight, affecting cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Multan.
Mobile phone services will remain operational, but internet and Wi-Fi access will be disabled. Authorities will decide on suspending mobile signals based on the situation's development.
Earlier, reports indicated that internet and mobile services might face disruptions in several districts of Punjab, Islamabad, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On November 22, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) activated a firewall on mobile internet, causing slow connections and issues with social media apps.
Earlier today, the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) issued a warning about possible terrorist attacks by the Fitna-al-Khwarij group during the November 24 protest.
NACTA advised provincial governments to enforce strict security measures, highlighting the threat of attacks targeting the protest. The report also suggested that Khwarij militants might have entered Pakistan from Afghanistan, posing risks to major cities.
Despite these warnings, PTI confirmed that the November 24 protest will proceed as planned. Large convoys from various districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are expected to depart for Islamabad by 10 a.m., with KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur overseeing their coordination.
He is also likely to lead one of the convoys, joined by a significant number of party workers.
Meanwhile, party sources clarified that Bushra Bibi, the wife of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, will not participate in any protests or rallies.
