LAHORE: Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has been elected as the new leader (Ameer) of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP), replacing Sirajul Haq.
The election was conducted by the party's Majlis-e-Shura, with approximately 45,000 party members from across the country participating in the voting process.
Additionally, around 6,000 female members of the party also participated, resulting in an overall turnout of 82 percent.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, who previously served as the party's Karachi leader since 2013, will now take on the role of Ameer.
Sirajul Haq, the former leader, announced his resignation from the top position on February 12, following the party's defeat in the general elections held on February 8.
In a brief statement on X (formerly Twitter), Sirajul Haq stated, "I take responsibility for the election loss and have resigned from the position of party leader."
