4 ways to stay fit and healthy on a budget

When exercise is fun, you’re more likely to keep it up for the long term.

If you love the benefits of exercise but want to save money, staying fit doesn’t have to be expensive. Walking is a simple and effective way to get your heart pumping, enjoy fresh air, and clear your mind.

You can challenge yourself by picking up the pace, going longer distances, or adding hills and stairs. Even simple strength exercises like push-ups and side bends along your route can make it a full-body workout.

You don’t need a fancy treadmill or gym equipment to train at home. You can do cardio by running or marching in place, jumping rope, or doing jumping jacks and high knees. Body-weight exercises such as squats, push-ups, and planks help build strength, while resistance bands can add extra challenge.

Yoga is also a great option, it relaxes your mind, increases flexibility, and strengthens your body. Many poses can even be done with a chair if you need support.

Playing sports like basketball, soccer, or pickleball is another way to stay active without spending much. You can practice alone, play with friends or family, or join a local team. If you’re trying a new sport, borrow equipment before buying it.

Take advantage of wellness programs, benefits, or gym discounts offered by your employer or health insurance. Most importantly, focus on activities you enjoy. When exercise is fun, you’re more likely to keep it up for the long term.
