Sindh takes charge of Humaira Asghar funeral after family refusal

KARACHI: The Sindh Culture Department has decided to take responsibility for the burial of actress and model Humaira Asghar, whose unclaimed body was found earlier this week in Karachi's DHA.

According to official sources, Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, has contacted Additional IG Karachi to coordinate the matter. The minister stated that all posthumous arrangements, including the funeral and burial, will be managed by the Department of Culture.

“Our first priority is to convince the family to receive the body and perform the burial,” said Minister Zulfiqar Shah. “However, if the heirs decline to claim the body or refuse to conduct the burial, then the Department of Culture will act as Humaira Asghar’s guardian and proceed with the final rites.”

The tragic death of Humaira Asghar, a known figure in modeling and television, has raised concerns about the neglect and loneliness often faced by individuals in the entertainment industry. The government’s involvement has been widely appreciated as a step toward dignified handling of the case.

Police said that the woman had rented a flat in 2018, the owner had made a case for not paying rent from 2024. Police arrived at the court order to evacuate the flat on the court order, the door was locked.
