Jamshoro: Torrential rains have caused severe devastation in the city of Jamshoro and its surrounding areas, located along the banks of the Indus River. Several regions in Taluka Sehwan and Thana Bula Khan have been submerged due to overflowing hill torrents triggered by continuous rainfall.
Flash floods from the nearby hilly streams have not only damaged homes and properties but have also completely disrupted electricity and gas supply in affected regions. Local residents report that their valuable belongings and household items have been swept away by the floodwaters, while transportation and communication systems remain crippled.
The situation is so dire in certain areas that residents have begun relocating to safer places.
Boat Accident: Five Rescued from Indus River:
In a separate incident, a boat accident occurred near Kamal Dero in the Naushahro Feroze district, where a vessel capsized in the Indus River. Fortunately, swift action by rescue teams led to the safe recovery of five individuals from the water.
Flooding in Larkana, Sehwan, and Riverine Areas:
Floodwaters have also inundated riverine (kacha) areas near Larkana and Sehwan, particularly those adjacent to protective embankments. Several villages have gone underwater, and evacuation efforts are underway, with locals being moved to relief camps set up by authorities.
PDMA Issues Alert for Potential Flooding:
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert, warning of a potential high-level flood in the Indus River at Guddu Barrage between September 14 and 15. All relevant departments have been instructed to take immediate precautionary measures.
Similarly, authorities have warned of possible flood surges at Sukkur Barrage in the coming days. Over 13,000 residents from the riverine areas have already been relocated to urban shelters. Meanwhile, a low-level flood is currently ongoing at Kotri Barrage.
