ISLAMABAD: India's efforts to push its narrative against Pakistan on the global stage seem to have hit another wall. Recent attempts by Shashi Tharoor in Colombia to promote a view critical of Pakistan reportedly didn't get any support.
Against India's expectations, the Colombian government chose to side with Pakistan. In a significant move, Colombia expressed regret over the loss of Pakistani lives during what were described as Indian attacks. This strong statement against India's actions has now put the Colombian government in a difficult spot with India.
Shashi Tharoor openly criticized Colombia, saying there "can be no equality between terrorists and those defending against them." During his diplomatic trip, he had apparently tried to blame Pakistan for terrorism in India, bringing up topics like the Indus Waters Treaty, the Pahalgam attack, and Operation Sindoor. However, the Colombian government completely dismissed this anti-Pakistan viewpoint.
This recent diplomatic setback isn't a one off event. Before criticizing Colombia, Tharoor had also made strong remarks against the United States and then President Trump.
These repeated incidents are now leading to global questions about India's way of handling international relations. Many observers are suggesting that India's aggressive diplomatic style and less-than-perfect strategies are increasingly making it isolated on the world stage.
