ISLAMABAD: Ongoing monsoon rains have claimed eight more lives in the past 24 hours, raising the nationwide death toll to 279, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
In its latest report, the NDMA stated that eight people lost their lives and 21 others were injured due to rain-related incidents across the country during the past day.
Of the fatalities, six were reported from Punjab, while one death each occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. All 21 injured individuals were also reported from various parts of Punjab, the report added.
The NDMA report said that the death toll from the rains so far has increased to 279 and 676 were injured.
According to the NDMA, 151 people were killed and 536 were injured in rains in Punjab, 64 people were killed and 80 injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 25 people were killed and 40 injured in Sindh while 20 people were killed and 4 were injured in Balochistan.
Meanwhile, Gilgit -Baltistan killed 9 people and injured 4, two people were killed and 10 were injured in Azad Kashmir while 8 people were killed and 3 were injured in Islamabad.
According to the NDMA, 362 houses were damaged and 7 cattle were killed due to rainfall in 24 hours.
So far, 1553 houses have been damaged due to the rains while 374 cattle have been killed.
