PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to establish a liver transplant center and a bone marrow transplant center in the province.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur in which it was decided to establish a liver transplant center and a bone marrow transplant center in the province while it was also decided to establish an institute of neurosurgery.

Chief Minister KP directed to provide funds for the establishment of these centers on priority basis.

The first liver transplant center is scheduled to be set up at the Institute of Kidney Diseases in Peshawar, with plans for its eventual relocation to Khyber Medical University.

Moreover, the meeting concluded with a decision to establish the Institute of Neurosurgery, which is earmarked to be located at Fountain House in Peshawar.

The provincial government’s objective is to make liver and bone marrow transplant services easily accessible to the residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, thereby reducing the need for them to seek treatment outside the province.

Furthermore, concerted efforts are being made to ensure the availability of dialysis services around the clock in government hospitals equipped with such facilities, with plans underway to introduce dialysis services in hospitals currently lacking them.
