MULTAN: Dozens of villages in Jalalpur Pirwala tehsil of Multan have remained submerged for the past 19 days due to stagnant floodwater, leaving residents in severe distress.
The prolonged presence of water has devastated crops and properties, prompting locals to demand urgent measures for water drainage.
Authorities have successfully sealed the breach in the Noraja Bhutta embankment, preventing further inflow of Sutlej River water into the affected settlements. Relief and transport operations are now underway in the area.
Meanwhile, a section of the M-5 Motorway from Multan to Jhangra Interchange remains closed for the 18th consecutive day due to floodwater. Restoration work will begin once the water level recedes.
The flooding has also affected Hamrot village near Qasim Bela in Multan, where stagnant water has led to the spread of fever and skin diseases among the local population.
Authorities continue to work on drainage and relief operations, but residents are calling for faster action to prevent further damage and health risks.
Meanwhile, Flood Situation Subsides at Kotri Barrage on the Indus River, the flood changed from the middle to lower levels, where the flow decreased to 290,000 cusecs.
The rest of the rivers are flowing as usual, Mangla Dam has been filled up to 99 % while the Tarbela Dam is also 100 %.
