LAHORE: A high-level flood has been recorded in the Sutlej River after India released another surge of water downstream, the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) reported on Saturday.
According to the FFD, water flow at Head Ganda Singh Wala has reached 353,825 cusecs, maintaining a high-flood situation.
At Head Sulemanki, the inflow and outflow of water was measured at 132,916 cusecs, while at Burewala Jamlera point the water flow stood at 160,000 cusecs.
Similarly, inflow and outflow at Head Islam was recorded at 103,465 cusecs, and at Mailsi Head Siphon the water discharge was 93,343 cusecs.
Floodwaters from the Sutlej River breached agricultural embankments in Bahawalpur, submerging nearby settlements and causing the collapse of several houses.
According to local reports, the embankment near Mouza Sahlaan gave way, allowing water to rush into Basti Hussainabad and adjoining villages. The inundation forced residents to evacuate, with many families shifting to safer locations.
Meanwhile, authorities have issued a fresh red alert following the arrival of another flood surge from Head Trimmu, warning of further risks to low-lying areas.
Rescue teams have been dispatched, while officials are urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with relief efforts.
Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) Lahore reported a high-level flood in the Ravi River at Head Balloki, where water flow has risen to 157,000 cusecs. At Head Sadhnai, however, water levels have receded to 101,000 cusecs.
Separately, the Chenab River at Chiniot is experiencing a high flood, with water discharge recorded at 448,000 cusecs.
Meanwhile, the Indus River is witnessing low-level floods at the Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages.
