Pakistani cricketer Haider Ali has been officially cleared of a rape allegation following a thorough investigation by the Greater Manchester Police and the Crown Prosecution Service, who concluded there was insufficient evidence to bring charges. The development brings relief to the young cricketer, who had consistently denied any wrongdoing.
The allegation stemmed from an incident reported by a British-Pakistani woman, who claimed the assault took place at a Manchester hotel on July 23, 2025. Haider Ali was taken into custody on August 4 but was later released on bail pending further inquiry. After weeks of investigation, authorities decided not to proceed with prosecution, citing a lack of substantial evidence.
“I have always maintained my innocence, and I’m grateful that the truth has come out,” Haider Ali said in a brief statement. “This period has been extremely difficult for me and my family, but I’m relieved that justice has prevailed.”
His legal counsel, Barrister Moeen Khan, added: “We had full faith in the legal system. The case lacked credibility from the outset, and we are pleased with the outcome.”
During the investigation, Haider Ali’s passport had been confiscated, restricting his ability to leave the United Kingdom. With the case now closed and no charges filed, his passport has been returned, and he is free to resume international travel.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had suspended the 24-year-old batter from all cricketing activities pending the conclusion of the investigation. With the case now dismissed, the PCB is expected to review his suspension and consider his reinstatement in the national setup.
