KARACHI: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday that if timely measures are not taken to deal with climate change, there will be loss in the future.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif while addressing the COP29 Climate Action Summit in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, said that due to floods, schools, houses and crops were severely damaged in Pakistan. He said Pakistan lost $30 billion due to floods.
Nearly 200 nations are negotiating global action on climate change at the summit aimed at climate fundraising to help transition to clean energy and adaptation to a warmer world.
The summit seeks to reach a deal that ensures up to trillions of dollars in financing for climate projects worldwide.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the world has promised to help Pakistan on the damages caused by climate change and hoped that the promises made in COP28 will be implemented.
He said that “We do not want other countries like Pakistan to face a situation like disastrous floods and added that Pakistan is taking strong measures to deal with climate change”.
The Prime Minister said that “We do not want that we are working on the National Carbon Market Framework, the world has to help developing countries like Pakistan”. He said Pakistan wants to invest in alternative energy sources.
