RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed at least 17 militants during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Lakki Marwat and Karak border region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was launched on September 26 and 27 following credible reports of the presence of militants linked to the Mullah Nazir group in the Darsha Khel area.
The troops from the Pakistan Army, Special Services Group (SSG), and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) jointly took part in the mission.
The operation, which lasted two days, resulted in the elimination of 17 militants, while more than 10 others were injured during intense clashes.
The ISPR added that the successful operation dealt a significant blow to the militant network operating in the region and reaffirmed the security forces’ resolve to eradicate terrorism from the country.
The military reiterated its commitment to continuing such intelligence-based operations until the menace of terrorism is completely eliminated.
Following the successful operation against terrorists, local residents warmly welcomed the security personnel upon their return. The community celebrated alongside the returning forces, expressing their gratitude and support for the operation and the restoration of peace in the area.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the security forces for eliminating 17 Khwarij in District Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The prime minister prayed for the swift recovery of personnel injured during the security operation, PM Office Media Wing in a press release said.
The prime minister, who is in the USA where he attended the UNGA session, besides his high-level engagements, said that due to the professionalism and timely action of the security forces, the nefarious designs of the terrorists were thwarted.
The government and the security forces were fully committed to eradicating terrorism, he said, adding they would soon uproot the menace of terrorism completely.
