On the other hand, some individuals defended the vocalist of “Heart Wants What It Wants”. They expressed no issues with her manner of speaking in the project and even stood up for her against the critics.
A person penned on X, “As a Spanish speaker I can confirm that Selena’s Spanish in Emilia Perez is perfectly fine and very much understandable, of course, she has a bit of an accent when speaking but that’s the point of her character, a Mexican-American.”
Audiences have praised the film and its cast, including Karla Sofia Gascon, Zoe Saldana, Edgar Ramirez, and many others, in addition to Gomez’s performance.
In an interview with “Remezcla” (published on November 13), Gomez shared that she wished she had more time to prepare for her role. She called the experience incredible and said it helped her reconnect with her roots, for which she felt grateful. Gomez also expressed hope that this wouldn't be her last project in Spanish.
