In May 2024, notable declines were observed in the average prices of edible oil and vegetable ghee across the country, as reported by the Bureau of Statistics.
The average price of one liter of mustard oil was Rs 495.43 in May 2024, marking a 0.88% decrease from the previous month. Similarly, the average price of 5 liters of Dalda cooking oil was recorded at Rs 2652.29, showing a 0.69% decline compared to April.
Additionally, there was a significant 29.26% decrease in the price of flour during May. However, the country experienced an increase in the consumption of urea and DAP (diammonium phosphate) in the first five months of the current calendar year compared to the previous year.
Between January and May, urea consumption reached 2,555,000 tonnes, indicating a three percent rise compared to the same period last year. These fluctuations in prices and consumption reflect ongoing changes in the country's economic landscape and consumer behaviour.
