In a harrowing incident in Livermore, California, a woman faced a life-threatening ordeal as she spent approximately 15 hours stranded on the top of her overturned car, partially submerged in rushing floodwaters. The incident unfolded on Monday evening in the 7000 block of Del Valle Road when the woman attempted to cross a flooded road. Underestimating the water's depth, her car was swept away, leading to the vehicle overturning.

The Alameda County Fire Department reported that the woman was forced to swim in the cold waters and climb onto the top of her car for safety. Unfortunately, during the vehicle's overturn, she lost her phone and other essential items, leaving her unable to call for assistance.

Battalion Chief Kent Carlin highlighted the challenging circumstances, stating, "During that time that her vehicle overturned in the water, she lost her phone and all other important items not to mention it was a bad coverage area anyway."

The woman remained stranded throughout the night, battling the elements. Fortunately, in the morning, a vigilant camper in the vicinity noticed her precarious situation and promptly called for help. Authorities revealed that by the time assistance arrived, the woman had been atop the overturned car for approximately 15 hours.

Firefighters initially planned a ladder rescue using a truck, but the California Highway Patrol opted for a helicopter rescue. Dramatic video footage captured the helicopter lowering personnel to lift the woman to safety, with turbulent water streaming down the roadway.

Battalion Chief Carlin described the challenging conditions, stating, "The water was significantly rapid when we arrived, I can only imagine that last night it was flowing a little heavier."

Despite enduring cold weather throughout the night, the resilient woman displayed no signs of injury. Authorities commended the camper's quick action, emphasizing the importance of vigilance during adverse weather conditions. The successful rescue stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of emergency responders who ensured the woman's survival after a perilous 15-hour ordeal on the overturned car in the floodwaters of California.
