WASHINGTON: White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt has appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating ceasefire talks, stating that the next phase of negotiations is likely to be held in Islamabad.
Addressing a press briefing, Leavitt said that discussions with Iran remain ongoing and productive.
She emphasized that Pakistan is playing a key mediating role in talks between Iran and the United States.
She dismissed reports suggesting that Washington had requested an extension of the ceasefire, calling them inaccurate.
Sources indicate that the second round of Iran-US negotiations is expected to take place in Islamabad later next week, with authorities and security agencies already directed to make necessary arrangements.
According to reports, the US delegation may be led by Vice President JD Vance, along with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The Iranian side is expected to be represented by Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
However, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that no final date has yet been set for the talks.
It is worth mentioning that the first round of negotiations between Pakistan and the United States took place in Islamabad on April 11, lasting nearly 21 hours but concluding without a final agreement.
